On March 14, 2024, Belgium clinched victory in the World Student Diplomacy Championship, a prestigious competition simulating the workings of the United Nations.

Held over the course of five days in Taipei, Taiwan, this annual event is organised by Harvard WorldMUN (Model United Nations) and draws participation from around a hundred countries.

During the championship, 1,000 to 1,500 young delegates assume the roles of diplomats, passionately advocating for the interests of the countries they represent. Each participant represents a delegation from a country other than their own, engaging in diplomatic negotiations and debates on global issues.

Belgium's inter-university team, comprised of 23 students from esteemed Belgian institutions such as UNamur, UCLouvain, ULB, KU Leuven, VUB, and UAntwerpen, showcased exceptional skill and teamwork throughout the competition. Nick Swinnen, chairman of the Belgian delegation, revealed that Belgium primarily represented Pakistan, Canada, and Denmark during the championship.

The conference focused on pressing global issues including cybersecurity, energy transition, nuclear energy, and migration to Syria, mirroring the agenda of the United Nations. Once again, Belgium demonstrated its diplomatic prowess by emerging victorious. This marks Belgium's eleventh championship win and its fourth consecutive triumph in the competition.
