Hungary has announced its slogan for its upcoming six-month presidency of the European Union: "Make Europe Great Again." Janos Boka, Hungary's EU

affairs minister, revealed the motto, echoing the campaign slogan of former US President Donald Trump.

Hungarian President Viktor Orban is known for his contentious stance within the EU, frequently vetoing significant decisions, such as those related to Ukraine. Lithuanian Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis noted that Hungary has blocked 41% of all EU resolutions on Ukraine.

Orban's actions have been so contentious that Article 7, which can suspend a member state's voting rights for serious violations of EU values, has been invoked against Hungary. Earlier this month, Belgian Foreign Minister Hadja Lahbib called for Europe to have the "courage" to override Hungary's veto using Article 7.

"Real Solutions to Real Problems"

Minister Boka emphasized that the presidency's slogan reflects a commitment to proactive leadership and the belief that unity strengthens Europe. "The Hungarian presidency will seek real solutions to Europe's real problems," he stated.

Boka also indicated that Hungary aims to act as an "honest broker" and work cooperatively with other EU member states and institutions, while still presenting a "very clear alternative" vision of Europe.

Starting on July 1, Hungary will take over the EU Council presidency from Belgium for six months. Hungary's priorities include enhancing European competitiveness, expanding the EU to the Western Balkans, addressing migration policy, and tackling demographic challenges.
