Germany’s Federal Commissioner for Jewish Life and the Fight against Antisemitism, Felix Klein, sees a significantly heightened threat to Jewish life in
Germany in light of the escalation in the Middle East. In an interview with the Funke Media Group, Klein said it should be expected that Iran could use its networks in Germany to carry out terrorist attacks against Jewish and Israeli institutions. In the past, he noted, heightened tensions in the Middle East had repeatedly been accompanied by an increase in attacks on Jewish life in Europe.
German security authorities had taken precautionary measures to strengthen protection for Jewish and Israeli institutions across the country, Klein added. The chair of the Parliamentary Oversight Committee for the intelligence services also warned of possible attacks by Iranian forces in Europe. Retaliatory actions could not be ruled out, said the CDU politician. The Iranian regime, he added, is currently fighting for its survival. Photo by Lebensmelodien on Youtube, Wikimedia commons.
