According to new data published by Eurostat, social media has become a standard tool for business communication across the European Union.
In 2025, 63.6% of EU enterprises with 10 or more employees reported using at least one form of social media, up from 61.1% in 2023. Companies continue to rely on these platforms to strengthen their online visibility, support marketing activities, engage with customers and partners, and enhance collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Wide differences across Member States
Adoption rates vary significantly between countries. The highest shares were recorded in Malta (88.2%), Finland (87.6%), and Denmark (86.1%). At the other end of the scale, lower usage was observed in Bulgaria (41.5%), Croatia (46.0%), and Hungary (47.3%).
Firm size matters
Social media use also increases with company size. In 2025, 60.6% of small enterprises used social media, compared with 76.2% of medium-sized firms and 89.1% of large enterprises. This confirms that larger organisations are more likely to integrate digital communication tools into their business operations.
Overall, the data highlights the growing importance of social media as a mainstream business instrument across the EU economy, while also revealing persistent regional and structural differences in adoption. Photo by Jason Howie, Wikimedia commons.
