A high-level delegation from the European Commission will travel to Ukraine next week to commemorate the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion on February 24, a Commission
spokesperson announced on Monday during a daily press briefing.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is currently in Paris, attending a high-level summit convened by French President Emmanuel Macron. This visit marks another step in ongoing diplomatic efforts surrounding the conflict.
This will not be the Commission’s first visit to Ukraine. In February 2023, von der Leyen led a large delegation of European commissioners to Kyiv for talks with the Ukrainian government. Since the war began, she has visited Ukraine eight times, reinforcing the EU’s support for the country.
As the anniversary approaches, diplomatic activity around the conflict is intensifying. European leaders in Paris are working to align their positions while U.S. President Donald Trump signals an intention to swiftly initiate negotiations with Russia. However, European leaders have not yet been included in those discussions, despite Washington's apparent expectation that they will play a key role in providing security guarantees for Ukraine.
